I have been a bit selfish over the past two weeks as my whack shack life has taken a turn for the better- all I can say now, or at this point is that I'm the happiest I've ever been and the shack now sits empty for days at a time!

So this whole boycott thing seems to have drifted past- and my followers don't really care about much anymore. We are near the downward spiral that is the last summer month. With that being said, I've been working like a mad man landscaping during the day and bartending parties at night. Last week I worked 3 1 4 hour days!! The party I was at last night was attended by that of Natalie Portman. I wanted to assault her with Star Wars referrances in character as the Star Wars Nazi! Alas, it's now saturday and I have the day off. Things have changed around here I must say, as I have now found a special girly who fully supports Shaack Life!!!

Well things have taken a turn for the better and worse- The Heat broke, and I've been working like a dog-

I had the pleasure of bar tending a party for what seemed like ever collegiate lacrosse and Hockey player on the North East!........ Now yes, I was a Lacrosse player( gettysburg college) and I don't mean to spit on myself here, but I'm pretty sure I never said to a bar tender, "Bro, thro me some Hella love and make it double!" And the girls..... Christ sakes alive..... What's A "VOCKASUDA???"""

Wow, I was just in the home of the folks that brought microsoft public- they had plates on the wall for 3k a pop from France---- the Living room looked like a show room. The house didn't feel lived in, it was too perfect. It was amazing, but somehow sad with perfectly places pictures?I wondered if it feels like to home to them? When a

A quick note-

Now that I've been working and bar tending out here for some private parties in peoples homes, I think its funny that all these people with summer homes feel it necessary to have signs in their houses with NANTUCKET on it????

It seems to be only he the summer vacationers? None of the locals I've have met have little quaint wooden sings that say NANTUCKET? Where does this need come from for folks to have a sign with NANTUCKET on it??? Do they not no where they are??

"honey, where are we again?, .... oh wait...i'm in my 2.5 million dollar home in NAAAANTUCKET!!! This Suedo vintage sign says Nantucket so I must be there"

If these people want an authentic Nantucket sign....,something that says "hey, I liver here!" or at least I can afford a house here, something better than a beach tag on their bumper, they should frame their reciets from Stop and Shop or a reciet from a a coffee and a bagel!! Now that would be some major "WHALE CRED"

Bonus Weekend on the ACK!

Doooooode............ wicke'd good timez!!!!

This weeked was one of the best weeekends so far out here on the ACK( that's island lingo for Nantucket)- This weekend made me realize why I gave up a bathroom, a kitchen, windows with screens, air-conditioning, a shower, hot water, and a stove. Brother in Arms, Spookie Daly Pride was out here playing his usual 3 nights at the BOX. Being the kind big brother that he is, he invited me up for a few tunes with the band. It was killer and the Box was getting off in a big way! Spook kills it every time!!

But the real treat was when he popped in at the Waack for a visit-- See the below video

I also got some surfing in this weekend with my new Brazillian Buddy Emmerson and his wife karen- ( one of the coolest couples on the island) they are both killer surfers! I on the other hand sucked, and I'll leave it at. The waves were 7-8 ft so it was a little rough for me. All in all made for a amazing weekend. Totally dig'in Shaack Life now.

Yes it's been a bit warm, I was mulching a garden for some lovely wealthy folks on monday in direct sun light which made about 100 degrees. As I looked in on the couple watching Fox news in their AC heaven, I politley gave them the Nantucket wave ( raise your pinky) and left the job!!!!

Heavy Rebel Weekend

I"ve have fled the shaack life and and i'm in Winston-Salem NC at the Heavy Rebel Weekend with Guitar Bomb. It's 4th of July weekend and I miss the shaack. This place is a scene for sure, its like a Star Wars convention for punkers and bikers, there's a wet t shirt contest, and a mud wrestling contest- The Sweet Ones got a tough slot we are right before the Wet t shirt contest, so who knows what the crowds will be like? Guitar Bomb goes on right after us.

Brother Floyd Kellogg and I are playing tonight at Cambridge St in downtown Nantucket.

I thought 'Lance Mountain' ( see above picture) was the perfect name for our "little Band"

Hopefully all goes well. Its mostly covers and a few You scream, and Sweet Ones tunes thrown in. I'm getting ready to head back NYC and go down to play the Heavy Rebel Music Fest-

It's the first time going off the island since I moved here, interested to see how it feels to be back in NYC!

MONSTER VISITORS

- I had some dear old friends drop into the shaack, my old college friend Chris and his Wife AKA " MONSTER WIFE"

It was really a sight to see, I mean Monster Wife in the mother F'in Waack shaack!!! They enjoyed every minute of it. And I shot some video to prove it! But for some reason it recorded funky so the footage jumps- sorry about that- but it stands as record- its really is nice when friends stop by- I was truly flattered that they drove from Boston to come visit it me!!!

Things have been super busy- I I've started catering so now I"m working 15 hours days-

the good news is Lance Mountain my new band for the summer with Brother Floyd Kellogg is playing, our first gig is tomorrow night! woot woot! ( wait that was gay)

anyway here is, and I write this I've now been bitten by the 60th mosquito in the last 10 minutes,

Bears on the Beach

Didn't have to work today- and it was a total beach daaaay-85' and sunny as a MOFO. So I packed a bag and hit the sand. The beaches are amazing out here, quite, peaceful and big surf. NOTHING LIKE THE THIS GUY! But I did notice a rather large couple near me smoking and kissing! NICE!

Came home and wrote this new song- here are the words

HELLO HELLO,

It's been a while, sorry for the delay!

I'm sure my 7 blog followers we're concerned for my well being ! First off, let me thank all of you for your thoughts, prayers, cards, gift baskets,flowers, limericks, Pepto-Bismal, paintings, and poems! I felt it, trust me! A hard-drive crash is as serious as it gets!! But alas, I am back up and running in the shaack, and have a brand new hard- drive to boot! ( get it) -Maybe if you we're a level 8 dungeon master you'd get it?? OK OK OK

It was a brutal week of work for sure. lets start there. I cut down 8 trees and had the pleasure of operating my first wood chipper-( you know that thing from the movie Fargo) The machine that he throws the body into to cut it up? Well this thing was about 3 sizes bigger than that one, you could throw a car into this thing, and it would chop it up. As threw log after log into the chipper I kept painting the emergency scene over and over in my head. I thought about which arm it would be? My right arm most likely. The phone calls that would follow, " did you hear Cote lopped off arm in wood a chipper", "so much for The Sweet Ones!"

Then I'd sit on some board of Limbless Americans Association, and I'd have my picture taken with the drummer of Def Leopard... I'd probably also get real jealous when people did 'the wave' at sporting events! But the good news is none of this happened and we cleared the back yard in record time and it looked pretty good at the end of the day!

+Its been really nice the past couple of days with sun drenched beach zombies starting to fill up the Bike paths, so YES Summer is hear on the Island. I woke up this morning and did my sunday morning swim in the ocean. It was brilliant and it really does nock a hang over right out of ya!!!

Morning Dog

And so I write,

Well it rained yesterday like a storm at sea here, buckets of rain coming out of my ears! I had tons of shack time for sure. Good thing i picked up Outliers by Malcolm Gladwell (Great read for sure-thanks Matty B- Working on my 10,000 hours of guitar!!)

I woke up this morning and rode into town for a coffee, then took a trip to beach- As I sat there on the beach I noticed a guy passed out with his moped helmet still on from the night before???? I'm starting understand that this places has very KOOKY undertones. Another case in point; there was a headline in this morning's paper of a Vermont man that passed out in the wrong house! Another case in point; a 58 year old women robbed one of two banks on the island. After robbing the bank with a note, she went next door to a shop and proceeded show off her bag of money!!!

So it stands this Shaack ain't the only thing that's Waack out here in NANTUCKET!!!

In the Brush

Greetings from the Shack that is everything waack!

It's been very misty and foggy the last couple of day, but the sun has just burned through and it feel like a vacation island again.

It's friday and I just got back from clearing about 90 miles of Brush on some millionaires estate over the looking the ocean. Yes I've started working for a landscaping company which is oddly enough owned by a guy from Syracuse.....?? Not sure if he bleeds Orange? I'll find out. Landscaping is really just a fancy name for lawn mowing company. Anyway, there I was clearing brush with this huuuge machine and thump, I ran over a Well Pipe.. $$$$$ ooops

So the owner came out to see the damage that the NEW GUY had done.........Maybe I'll be fired??

That's gonna be the title of my new book "oops" the life and times of Doug Cote

Shaack Life

Hello Hello,

I am writing this from my new home of which I have dubbed, 'The Waack Shaack' located on Nantucket Island Massachusetts! It's crazy to think 3 weeks ago this was just an idea that popped into my head one night while having a beer with brother Floyd Kellogg. It was a crazy adventure out here, filled with traffic, rental cars breaking down, and flipping off school a bus!!!!!. Big thanks to Miss Kelly Jones and Audrey Sterk and Flood Kellogg! So now my home for the next 3 months is on Nantucket Island. Having not left Manhattan in 12 years, I new I needed to mix things up, as in most things in life. Its always good to re-arrange the furniture of your life! Hopefully finding new things and perspectives, and things you might not have ever known. Here's MY first,

Shacks are FUCKING Hot as SHIT in the summer time! So yea, I'm still adjusting to island life for sure. But, riding my bike into town, brushing my teeth out side, and an outdoor shower seem like a great middle finger to NYC for now. So far I've been working in prep kitchen and tomorrow I'm gonna start working with landscaping company- we'll see how it all plays out.

Oh and a side note,

I had forgot about the whole 'Prepster' scene' out here, its definitely at level Orange, but it seems to be such a small part of this island. For the most part it's a lot of really cool hippies and hard workers.

Speaking of Whales pants ( Yes, guys actually wear pants that have little whales on them) I am gonna make my own line of WHALE PANTS, but mine are gonna have cute little whales on them with a harpoon through their heads and blood coming out of mouths.

NOW THOSE WOULD BE SOME FUCKING WHALE PANTS!!!!
